Van Horn – Fort Davis

View US New Mexico Texas 2018 Summer on FierceOrc's travel map.

A short trip today through Davis Mountains State Park, where Leonie relished in the Texan vastness, and a brief visit to the historical landmark Fort Davis, one of a chain of forts established after gold was discovered in California in 1848 to protect traffic (people, freight, post) from raids by the Apache, Comanche, and Kiowa.

We’re staying at the Overland Trail Campground in Fort Davis town, run by a former air force officer who, for much of his career, was stationed in the Netherlands as an operations manager and who claims to have owned a house in the Dutch town of, would you believe it, Lieshout for over 30 years. With a pool. And a tennis court. He emphasizes this does not make him a wealthy man.
