Yesterday, I neglected to present the beautiful, historical downtown of Sanderson to you. Here it is:

Sanderson – By night

Another change of plan, another long day driving, today. In Langtry, we had to stop, of course, to visit Judge Roy Bean’s Jersey Lilly, where he dispensed liquor and the Law West of the Pecos.

After crossing the Pecos River with its imposing cliffwalls, we got out at Seminole Canyon State Park & Historic Site, but realized that for people from the Netherlands who put on skates in winter, it was far too hot to do any kind of moving about. So we decided to skip Del Rio (our original destination) altogether and press on for Bandera, the tiniest little Cowboy Capital of the World. John Wayne pictures and saloons with beer and dancing aplenty. We’ll be staying two nights at Skyline Ranch RV Park, the office of which is womanned by a French-speaking lady from Switzerland, who has kindly offered to drive us into town tomorrow to watch the weekly gunfight re-enactments on Main Street. We’re excited at the prospect of seeing the Old West be brought back to life. To be rounded off with a visit to the 11th Street Cowboy Bar and a BBQ lunch.

Bandera - Wild Horse Saloon- Karaoke Friday night (and a birthday party)
There were actually more people, hats, boots, belts and knives there than you would think from this. Classic car auction on the TV screens and I tasted my first Lone Star ever. Good enough to ask for seconds. Many people smoked inside. Many went outside for a smoke.
